- First, you should disconnect all outdoor hoses and turn the water off all exterior faucets.
- Wrap pipes that are in the attic, crawl spaces and near exterior walls with pipe insulation or heating tape.
- Keep your garage doors closed during the winter if there are water supply lines in the garage.
- Keep your house temperature not lower than 15 Celsius degrees even if you are going away for an extended period of time.
- During an extreme cold weather event, you can turn your hot and cold water faucets and allow a trickle of water, the flow of water prevents from pipes getting frozen.
- Finally, locate the water valves to the water supply and water heater so you are prepared if a flood emergency happens.
